14-Layer Chocolate Cake

Yield: 1 Cake

Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups flour
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Preparation:

    Cream the margarine, oil, and sugar together. Add the eggs one at a time, then alternate adding the milk and flour, beating after each addition. Add the vanilla.

    Put 1 large spoon of mixture into an iron griddle.

    Bake only a few minutes at 450° (F). Remove from the oven and cool.

    Repeat until all of the batter has been used.

Icing

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 6 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups evaporated milk
  • 2 tablespoons flour or cornstarch

Preparation:

    In a small- to medium-sized pot, mix the sugar, cocoa and flour together. Add the milk, butter, and water.

    Cook slowly and stir constantly until thick. Do not allow the mixture to reach a boil or the icing will become grainy.

    Spread the icing on the cake layers and then frost the top and sides.
